December 31, 2020

2020 started off with a bang…literally!

The US assassinated Iran’s top general…

And people on twitter lost their minds thinking World War 3 was about to break out.

Side note: Two countries warring is NOT a world war lmao.

But that’s besides the point…

Iran basically said they were with the smoke and they vowed revenge…

I thought they were bluffing but they launched ballistic missiles at a few Iraqi military bases that were housing US forces.

Apparently no US personnel was injured and the bases were only grazed…

Here’s the thing:

On one hand you could say – Iran won’t be taken for a bitch, they got missiles and they’re willing to use them…

And on the other hand you could say – Iran’s missiles and military efforts are WACK af since they attacked a base and didn’t put any numbers on the board…

Thankfully there were no casualties, but that doesn’t look good for a country that vowed to take “revenge”…

My point being:

Sometimes you should just move on…

The US are big boys. Their army is on absolute CRUD and Iran wouldn’t stand a chance in a fight.

Provoking the US doesn’t seem like a smart strategy for a country that wants to keep existing.

And, this brings me to my own struggles of “just moving on”…

This Tuesday I filmed 7 videos for you.

I did a pretty great job if I say so myself but, there was a BIG problem…

I forgot to make sure that my recording software was recording my computer audio…

This is pretty bad news…

Why?

Because I recorded videos like “how to create ambient melodies FAST”…

And the video is pretty shitty if you can’t actually HEAR the melodies I’m creating.

This happened for at least 5 of my videos…

I had 2 choices:

1. Re-record all 5 videos from scratch

2. Re-record the audio for the videos (by basically following my own tutorial)

Now, I knew I had already recorded some great videos so I didn’t want to completely scrap them…

And I assumed that recording the audio would be quicker than re-recording the whole video again…

I was DEAD WRONG!

Recording the audio took almost as long as recording the videos themselves!

And editing the videos?

Omds, I TRIPLED my editing time for all of these videos…

A 20 min video took me 2 HOURS TO EDIT FAM!!

2 HOURS!!!

That served me right for not checking to make sure I was recording my computer audio (I’ll never make that mistake again).

But, I would’ve saved a bunch of time and stress if I had just moved on and recorded the videos again.

Sometimes it’s better to leave the past in the past and create new, better things…

Can you relate?

Are you holding on to old songs…

Old beats…

Old relationships…

Hoping you can improve them?

Maybe it’s time to move on to something new…

However, sometimes holding onto the past can be really useful – like when you’re using samples and loops.

Using samples and loops is a super easy way for artists and producers to make beats quickly.

Whether you’re an artist trying to make beats for yourself…

Or an aspiring producer trying to make beats to sell…

Understanding how to use samples and loops is an important skill to have.

In yesterday’s email I said I was gonna share my secret sampling trick you NEED to know…

And, I’m a man of my word (as you already know).

So, here’s the sexy link you need to click for my secrets to be yours:

All the best,

Jay “Move On To Better Things” Cartere

P.S.

If you could request one super in-depth video course from me, what would you want to learn?

Reply to this email with your answer, I wanna know how I can help you the most!

I’ll be getting into course production mode after January, so don’t miss this opportunity to share your opinion…
