Recently, I’ve been receiving a few requests from people to “give them a shoutout” on Instagram. Whenever I get these sort of messages, I reply politely telling them that I do not do that sort of stuff because I find it cheesy.

And that’s the problem, it’s incredibly cheesy and disingenuous for me to post a picture of your Instagram page and urge people to go follow you. It’s blatant spam – something I am very opposed to.
I also don’t understand the purpose of this, but maybe I’m just ignorant to what’s important in the world. Why do you even want me to promote your Instagram page? To get more followers? More likes? Then what?

If these people had some sort of product they were selling that provided value or had entertaining photos they’d created and wanted to get out there I’d be happy to help. If I believe in your product and enjoy it, I have no problem exposing you to whoever wishes to follow me on Instagram.
However, if your purpose is to just gain some sort of social validation to boost your self-esteem then I can’t help you. Those issues are not quickly solved by increased engagement on social media, you should like you before you ask someone else to (don’t like your own pictures on Insta though, that’s trashy).
So if you’ve got something you want to promote, send me a message and ask how you can send it over. I’ll be more than happy to promote it if I like it. If you just wanna be popular, you should probably do some inward exploring – meditate with monks in the Himalayas if possible.
Tell me what you think about this on Twitter or Instagram.
