I decided to take the weekend off in order to recuperate, relax and retain my sanity. I also got the new Mortal Kombat game and I’ve been having a blast. These are my first impressions so far.

When I first popped the game in I had to delete a few games from my hard drive in order to make space. I don’t know what Sony was thinking when they gave the PS4 a 500GB hard drive; many games take up 50 GB each, so every time I get a new game I have to delete an old one. Anyways, after that, I waited about half an hour to install the game and finally got cracking.

The only mode I’ve played so far is story mode. I’m tryingJay Carteré | Jay Cartere | First Impressions: Mortal Kombat X to finish that and get a little experience before I leap into the dark depths of the online battleground. The first couple matches I had in story mode really made me re-evaluate my skill level. When I last played Injustice, I was kicking ass like there was no tomorrow. I thought jumping back into Mortal Kombat would have been easy peasy, but it took some getting used to. The story mode plays out just like Injustice and MK 9. You play as a character for about 4 matches and then you switch to a new character and continue the story from their point of view. There are also some quick time events in some of the cut scenes between fights. The cut scenes are sick so far and I’m enjoying the story.

First Impressions: Mortal Kombat XIn the 3rd chapter of the story when I was able to play as Sub-Zero I felt a lot more comfortable with the controls, the movement and the fighting in general. I still haven’t played as my all-time favourite MK character yet: Scorpion. I’m hoping the story mode gives me a chance to do so, but if not I’ll just play arcade mode in order to practice with the destroyer of hope before I jump online and hand out beatings like it was going out of fashion.

My verdict on the game so far is: It’s pretty good. When I check out the rest of the modes I may write a full review.
